MANGAWEKA
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE There vas a very good attendance at the June meeting of the Mangaweka Women’s Institute. Mrs M. Ginnane presided and extended a special welcome to Mrs Brewer, transferred from the Raetihi Institute, to Mrs H. Dalrymple,- absent for some time through ill-health, and to Mrs Williams, a visitor from Papua. A small gift was presented to Mrs E. Williams, a valued member and a former treasurer, on her leaving the district. Miss Brock offered to teach folk dancing and as many members were keen, it was decided to form classes for this. The demonstration on home-made slippers was given by Mesdames Kirkby and Ginnane. The Rev. N. Watkins gave an exceedingly interesting travel talk and the reading of a short play by the drama circle was much enjoyed. The competitions for bottled fruit and plain fruit cake were popular and was won by Miss Crawford and
Mrs F. Pederson. For the July meeting the competitions are “Home-made Slippers,” “Jat of Jelly,” and the demonstration of wood pulp flowers. KING GEORGE V. MEMORIAI FUND The public have made a splendid response to the above-named fund. Mrs T. Pairman’s list reached the £2l mark and with other lists and the Town Board’s donation of £5 brings the total up to £27 odd. For a small place like Mangaweka this is considered very gratifying. GOLF At a ladies’ committee meeting It was decided to have a ladies’ handicapping committee, also to elect a captain. Mesdames D. Barrell, J. O’Callaghan, and T. Pairman we’*e elected to the handicapping committee and Mrs O’Callaghan, capta’n. Weather permitting, a team of ladies and men from Hunterville will visit Mangaweka during the week-end.
