BRITISH 300 YARDS RECORD
Godtrey Brown, the fair, curlyheaded, bespectacled Cambridge runner, who was second in the 400 metres at the Olympic Games, achieved a great ambition recently at Cambridge when, running on a bitterly’ cold afternoon and against a headwind for part of the distance, he broke the British record for the 300 yards, returning the time of 30.55. The old British record was a tenth of a second slower and was held by Guy Butler, who covered the distance in 30.6 s at Otamford Bridge in 1926. The present world amateur record is held by ,1. Kovacs, the Hungarian, with 30s dead. Actually, Brown broke two records in the afternoon, as he is the first man to be holder oi five Cambridge ground records. Previous to this term he held the records for the 100 yards, 440 yards and 880 yards, and oniy a week or two ago he broke the record for t..p 200 yards.
