RUGBY AFFAIRS ! CLUB FIXTURES ON JUNE 9 | The Taihape Rugby Union decided at its weekly meeting on Monday evening to arrange for club fixtures to be played on Wednesday, June 9 (King’s Birthday holiday) as well as on the following Saturday. ! The president, Mr J. Quirk, was in • the chair, and also present were Messrs J. Webb, R. C. Schofield, W. |O’Connor, A. H. Smith, C. H. Tranisom, L. A. Hebberd, and the secretary (Mr C. L. Mullany). The secretary pointed out that Wednesday, June 9, was being observed as a public holiday throughout the Dominion to celebrate the King’s Birthday, and he suggested that club fixtures be played on this day, which would give shopkeepers and their assistants an opportunity of attending the football. He was sure that the union would get a good “gate” as there was nothing else on in Taihape that day.

On the motion of Mr Schofield, seconded by Mr Smith, it was decided to play club fixtures on June 9, as follows:

j Seniors. Huia v. Hautapu, on No. 1 ground, at 2.45 p.m.; Utiku v. Pirates, on No. 2 ground, at 2.45 p.m. Juniors.—Utiku v. Pirates, on No. 1 ground, at 1.15 p.m.; Huia v. Hautapu, on Ho. 2 ground, at 1.15 p.m. Mr Mullany was appointed manager of the Taihape team to play Wanganui at Taihape next Saturday, while the president was deputed to meet the Wanganui team on its arrival. The matter of arranging for refreshments for the visitors was left in the hands of the secretary. j June 26 was confirmed as the date (for Taihape to visit the Ruapehu Union. A junior match between the two unions is to be played at Taihape on the same date. Position of Teams The secretary reported on the position of the teams in the senior and junior competitions as under:— Seniors Huia 8 Utiku 7 Hautapu 5 Pirates 4 Juniors Pirates .... 10 Hautapu 9 Utiku 5 Huia 0 Last Saturday marked the end of the second round. The next round will start on June 9. The secretary informed the meeting that Rangi Chase had received a tempting offer to play League football in Auckland and was considering the matter.
