SEASON’S WOOL CHEQUE
NEARLY FIFTEEN MILLIONS BIG INCREASE ON LAST YEAR I Per Pitas Association. ] WELLINGTON, May 3. The New Zealand Woolbrokers’ Association reports that during the season just ended 663,798 bales were sold for a total realisation of £14,903,257, compared with £9,840,427 last season. The average price for the 1936-37 season was £22 9s a bale. This season’s proceeds are the highest recorded since the wool auctions were resumed after the wartime commandeer. The offerings this season were 101,536 bales less than for 1935-36, and the actual sales were less by 73,656 bales, but gros proceeds for a much less quantity sold were £5,062,830 in excess of last season. The quantities offered and sold during 1935-36 constituted a record for the Dominion, and the lesser quantities offered and sold this season are accounted for by the greatly reduced “carry-over” from last year. Nevertheless, offerings and sales during the 1936-37 selling season were exceeded during the last 16 seasons only by last season’s record figures, the next best being 633,553 bales sold during 1933-34. 7he average prices of £22 9s a bale and 15.82 d a pound are the best recorded since 1927-28, when the figures were £24 4s lid and 16.89 d.
