FIRST ROUND RESULTS AUSTRALIA’S COMPLETE VICTORY BROMWICH IN SINGLES (By Telegraph—Press Assnciat'on--Copyright) MEXICO CITY. May 2. In the first round elimination match for the Davis Cup, Australia won both the second singles to score a complete victory over Mexico. J. Bromwich (Australia), replacing V. B. McGrath, who is in bed with a sore throat, beat Reyes (Mexico), 6-2, 6-2. 7-5. In the first sot. four games went to deuce. In the second there were long rallies, Bromwich winning two games to love. In the third set. Reyes used an effective back-hand. The last game went to deuce five times. A. K. Quist (Australia) beat. Tapia (Mexico) 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Quist won the first four games and Tapia the fifth and seventh. In the second set Tapia won the first two, Quist the next three, and Tapia the sixth and seventh. In the third set, Tapia won the first three, Quist the fourth, and Tapia the fifth after two deuces. Quist won the sixth, seventh and eighth, and Tapia the ninth and tenth from 30-40. In the final set. Tapia, who was serving, won the first game to love. Quist won the next three, ana Tapia the fifth. Quist won the slxtn to love. Tapia the seventh, Quist the eighth to 30. In the ninth game there were six deuces. Quist had difficulty at times with Tapia’s high bouncing ball, resulting in net faults.

McGRATH IN HOSPITAL CONDITION NOT ALARMING Received May 3, 11.50 p.m. MEXICO CITY, May 3. McGrath has been taken to Cowdray Sanatorium because of throat infection. Mr Sproule, who is remaining in Mexico City, said he hoped McGrath would recover in a few days. Crawford, Quist and Bromwich have left for San Antonio. La Croix (Belgium) beat Gabory (Hungary), 6-2, 6-4, 6-1; Dallos (Hungary) beat De Borman (Belgium), 7-5, 3-6, 6-2, 3-3. De Borman retired owing to cramp. SWISS AND IRISH MONTREUX, May 2. Switzerland eliminated Ireland from the Davis Cup competition. Fischer beat Lyttelton-Rogers, 6-3, 6-4, 4-6, 2-6, 6-2; Elmer beat McVeagh, 5-7, 8-6, 6-4, 6-1. In the doubles, Lyttelton-Rogers and McVeagh (Ireland) beat Maneff and Fischer, 6-0, 6-2, 5-7, 5-7, 6-4.
