The Daily Telegraph’s Berlin correspondent says that Herr Hitler’s May Day speech in the Lustgarten was heard by a most unenthusiastic crowd. The Fuhrer’s speech dealt with the results of four years of dictatorship, and the deprivation of political freedom could be plainly read in their apathetic faces. Meanwhile anti-Christian prejudices inculcated in German youth are causing an outbreak of sacrilege throughout the Catholic portion of Germany
PAINFUL IMPRESSION HITLER’S ATTACK ON CHURCHES. Received May 3, 11.5 p.m. LONDON, May 2. The Daily Telegraph’s correspondent at the Vatican City says that Herr Hitler’s attack on the churches has made a painful impression as officials had been led to believe that Herr Hitler desired a friendly settlement.
