BRITISH AND FOREIGN BIBLE SOCIETY Miss Hartnell, organiser for the British and Foreign Bible Society, visited the local branch on Wednesday afternoon. Rev. McCallum, of Mangaweka, conducted the meeting, and introduced the speaker. Miss Hartnell gave a very interesting account of the society's coporteur's work throughout various Eastern countries. Mrs G. Rose, secretary, gave a report on the branch’s activities, and read a letter from the Rev. David Calder expressing appreciation and thanks for the donation of over £4. Mrs W. Boshier was elected president for the coming year, and Mrs Rose was re-elected secretary. Collectors appointed were Mesdames Rose and Deroles and Misses D. Fankhauser and J. Boshier. A vote of thanks was accorded the retiring president, Mrs R. Deroles. The meeting, which was held in the Methodist Church, was brought to a close with the serving of afternoon tea. KITCHEN TEA EVENINGS Miss Doreen Hopwood, who is shortly to be married, was given a kitchen tea on Saturday evening, when a large number of her friends throughout the district gathered to extend their good wishes to her for her future happiness. Mr A. McDonald, on behalf of the residents, called upon the guests of honour to accept a collection of household gifts, and wished the young couple every success and happiness in the future. Mr H. Lewer responded on behalf of Miss Hopwood. Miss Hopwood and Mr Lewer were accorded musical honours, and a very pleasant evening was brought to a close shortly before midnight with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne."
