ECHO OF REFERENDUM COUNTRY PARTY’S REQUEST REFUSED PARLIAMENT POWERLESS CANBERRA, March 10. The Federal Cabinet to-day rejected all overtures by the Country Party to make further attempts to correct the constitutional position preventing organised marketing in the Commonwealth. After a discussion lasting for more than six hours, the Prime Minister issued a statement to-night in which he said: “As the constitution stands after last Saturday’s referenda, the Commonwealth Parliament is powerless to assist.” The Prime Minister indicated that the County Party had pressed for bounties payable either out of a special excise on dried fruits and butter or from general revenue.
