THE CORONATION TATTOO
This year's Tattoo at Aidershot, Jun 9 10-12, 15-19, is to be known as the Coronation Tattoo. For the setting an attempt will be made to reproduce Old London and the theme of the pageant is that of "Allegiance to—and affection for—our newly crowned King and Emperor." The Tattoo will open with "a peagant of banners of lhe Dominions Colonies and States of the Empire assembled in salute to the national flag,” and will end with "a pageant introducing the banners and bodyguards of the Kings and Queens of England from William the Conqueror.*’ Modern mechanised units will be seen in action and there will be retrospective glimpses of Cromwell’s Model Army at drill and the Duke of Wellington's men in battle. The massed pipe bands of the Highlanders, sadly missed in 1936, will make a popular reappearance. These and many other episodes will bring into the Rushmoor Arena upwards of 5000 troops of the Aidershot and Eastern Command. The stands and enclosures contain 77,500 seats, of which approximately 15,000 are under cover. The "stage” is an eleven acre expanse of turf.
