TENNIS. C GRADE SHIELD. At Hunterville on Saturday the local team defeated St. John’s, Wanganui, in a C grade shield match. Details were as follows: Ladies’ Singles.—Miss Morton 1, Miss Winter 9; Miss Dalziell 1, Miss Marshall 9; Miss McDonald 5, Miss Hair 9; Mrs. Donovan 9, Miss Missen Ladies’ Doubles.—Misses Morton and Dalziell 3, Misses Winter and Marshal 9; Miss McDonald and Mrs. Donovan 9, Misses Hair and Missen 2. Men’s Singles.—Henderson 9, Beadle 7; Butement 9, Connett 6; Chisholm 4, O’Shaughnessy 9; Cowie 9, Parnell 4. Men’s Doubles.—Chisholm and Cowie 9, Beadle and O’Shaughnessy 5; Henderson and Butement 9, Connett and Parnell 5. Combined Doubles.—Mrs. Donovan and Chisholm 2, Miss Winter and O’Shaughnessy 9; Miss Morton and Butement 2, Miss Marshall and Beadle 9; Miss Dalziell and Cowie 9, Miss Missen and Connett 6; Miss McDonald and Henderson 9, Miss Hair and Parnell 5. Hunterville 9 sets, 99 games; St. John’s 7 sets, 106 games. Match at Wanganui. At the week-end a team of Hunterville players visited Wanganui East and after an enjoyable day’s play lost by 15 sets to 11. Fourteen players made the trip, eight men and six ladies.

CRICKET.

CLUB v. PUBLIC WORKS. During the week-end a match was played between a team from the Public Works camp and the club, the “regulars” emerging easy winners. The P.W. scored 65, Rogers being the only double-figure scorer with 30. Dustan 15, Bowick 14, Crawford (retired 17), Meredith (retired 27), Baker 15 and Ross (retired 12) batted well for the club.
