THRESHING-MILL GALLEYS

MOTOR REGISTRATION ANOMALY I Per Pres* Association. 1 TIMARU, Feb. 9. Representatives of the threshing mill owners and workers waited on the Minister of Public Works, Hon. R. Semple, to-night in regard to motor registration fees for cooks and men’s galleys. The deputation pointed out that there was no object in paying for registration plates and insurance and they considered that the galleys should be exempt from registration fees. The Minister said the law was never intended to apply to such galleys and he would see to it that the anomaly was removed. He believed that the idea of the law was to bring in a multiplicity of caravans which were crudely built and some which were as wide as the highway itself. It was never intended that " galleys used exclusively for the industry should come under the Act.
