MARKETING ACT

CAMPAIGN OPENED BROADCAST BY NOTABLE SPEAKERS Received Feb. 10, 1 a.m. SYDNEY, Feb. 9. What has now become known as the marketing referendum campaign arising out of the Privy Council’s decision last year upsetting the Commonwealth marketing powers, was officially launched in Sydney to-night by a broadcast throughout Australia. The chief speakers were Mr. J. A. Lyons (Prime Minister), Dr. Earl Page (leader of the Country Party), and Messrs. Stevens and Hogan (Premiers respectively of New South Wales and Victory). Their arguments were directed to the disabilities occasioned the rural community by r ’ vy . Council’s decision and to the necessity for amendments to aie constitution to correct the position. The speakers strongly urged a Yes vote to the Commonwealth Government’s proposals; also a "Yes” vote to a further request that the Commonwealth should have complete control over aviation, which hitherto has not existed under the constitution. Reports are current that in at least two States a negative vote will be recorded. The Labour Party in New South Wales will combat the Commonwealth’s proposals.
