It is announced that the King Emperor informed the Secretary for India that he had reluctantly come to the conclusion that he would not be able to hold the Coronation Durbar in India next winter. He finds the duties and responsibilities which he has undertaken on acceding to the Throne unfortunately make it impossible for him to contemplate prolonged absence from Britain during the first year of his reign. Savage, to-day, that after consultation with the Associated Choral Societies of New Zealand the following will be recommended for inclusion in the Coronation choir, which will sing at Westminster Abbey during the Coronation ceremony: Soprano, Madame Winn*? Fraser, of Dunedin; contralto, Miss Christina Young, Wellington; tenor, Mr Gordon Fagan, Auckland; baritone, Mr F. W. Wilson, Dunedin. In the event of the Master of the King’s Music agreeing to the inclusion of a fifth voice, Mr Hubert Carter, of Christchurch, will be recommended. In the case of any of those selected for recommendation being unable to accept an invitation, Ihe vacancies will be filled from the following: Soprano, Miss F. White, of Dunedin; contralto. Miss L. L. Corrigan. Tauranga; baritone, Mr Denis Dowling, Dunedin. With the exception of Mr Fagan, who is still in New Zealand, all those selected are at present either in England or on their way there. “I wish to thank the Associated Choral Societies of New Zealand,” said the Prime Minister, in making the announcement, "for the trouble that body has taken to ensure that the very best voices available would be selected to do honour to New Zealand on the occasion of the Coronation.”
