ALEXANDER MUSEUM

SEA CAPTAIN’S PRAISE SUGGESTIONS OFFERED A suggestion that the Alexander Museum authorities in Wanganui should collaborate with those of the Australian Museum was contained in a letter received at yesterday’s monthly meeting of the Alexander Museum Trustees from Captain C. W. Ostenfeld, master of the intercolonial steamer Kalingo. The writer stated that he, on a previous visit to Wanganui, had been very much impressed with the value that would accrue if such a suggestion were adopted. Captain Ostenfeld is a keen archaelogist and is also a student of marine life. He is an authority on many subjects and is particularly interested in museum collections. "May I submit to your board that an invitation be given to the Australian Museum to send one of their staff to visit your splendid institution in Wanganui,” the letter added. "As an honorary member of the Australian Museum, I feel sure that such an invitation would receive favourable consideration. May I say that the trustees and citizens of Wanganui have a wonderfully equipped and staffed museum, which is a credit, as well as an asset, to their district.” The chairman (Mr. Hope Gibbons) remarked that Captain Ostenfeld was to be complimented on an excellent idea. He suggested that the authorities in Australia be communicated with immediately.
