Mr. Wm. Morrison, chairman of the Waitotara County Council, has a good record for attendance and has m.ssea only one county meeting in 20 years. Mr. Morrison is also chairman of the Wanganui Harbour Board.

Mr. A. H. Ross, who has been undergoing treatment for some considerable Lime at the Rotorua Sanatorium, arrived home yesterday by car, accompanied by his son and brother, Mr. R. P. and Mr. A. D. Ross, respectively.

Professor W. A. Sewell, professor or English at the Auckland University College, left Auckland by the limited express on Sunday night en route to Australia. He is due to attend the conference of Australasian Universities at Adelaide on February 15. It is anticipated that Professor Sewell will be absent about three weeks.

Dr. H. D. Robertson, of Wanganui, has been visiting Sydney to meet Mrs. Robertson, who is returning after a trip to Great Britain and the Continent. They are expected to arrive back in Wanganui on Thursday oi this week. During his stay in Sydney Dr. Robertson was the guest or the Sydney Rotary Club.

Memories of those who were associated with the New Zealand Bra:s Band Contest, held in Wanganui eight years ago, and who have since passed away, were recalled by Mr E. O'Meara at a public meeting last night. Mr O’Meara read a list u» names, those mentioned being officials who played a large part in the fixture, and at the suggestion of the Mayor of Wanganui (Mr W. J. Rogers), the meeting stood in silence for one minute. The deceased officials were: Messrs James Reid (secretary), F. Symes (chairman), D. McFarlane (chairman, Finance Committee), J. Valentine (committee), C. H. Warden (superviser), J. T. Rees (judge), and Sergeant-Major Domney (military judge).

Miss Eileen Cornyns, who has given excellent service as honorary pianists to the Wanganui Rotary Club, has had to resign the position on account of ill health. In a letter to the club received at yesterday’s meeting, she expressed thanks fbr the many kindnesses shown her. The president, Rotarian F. H. Bethwaite, was deputed to convey the club’s appreciation to Miss Cornyns of her work. She is to be permitted to retain her badge of honorary membership. Miss Cornyns has also resigned her position as pianiste with the Wanganui Amateur Musical and Dramatic Society, another body to whom she has rendered very efficient and painstaking service. Extreme regret at losing her has been expressed by the executive and members.
