SLEPT ON LEVEL CROSSING

Glancing out of the window of his signal-box, a signalman at Spradow, Westphalia (Germany), was startled to see a car standing, on the level crossing below. He hurried' down to It and discovered that the driver was fast asleep. He tried to arouse him, but without success. Then he heard a train approaching. Running towards it he attracted the engine driver's attention and in response to his signals the train pulled up. Then the engme driver, fireman and signalman pushed the car off the rails, while its driver slept on undisturbed. The signalman next summoned the police, who again moved the sleeping motorist—this time to the police station. Now his driving licence has been taken away from him for being drunk in charge of a car.
