MAJESTIC THEATRE

“SUZY,” TO-DAY. The new Jean Harlow picture ! “Suzy,” based on the best-seller novel of the same title by Herbert Gorman, j is the current attraction at the MajesI tic Theatre. Two of the ace leading men of the screen support Miss ■Harlow in this production in the perisons of Franchot Tone and Cary ■[Grant, each of whom is seen as Miss I Harlow’s husband in respective porj tions of the exciting story. The ’romance, intrigue, and drama in the ; precarious lives of those who stand i behind the scenes of international I espionage form the background of the plot which centres about an American girl stranded in London. The girl, Suzy, unwittingly becomes entangled with spy activities and stumbles upon the evidence which leads to the execution of a woman counter-spy and the shattering of her romance with a young officer. The picture is the latest directorial effort of George Fitzmaurice who achieved distinction for his direction of Greta Garbo in two of her most successful photoplays, “Mala Hari” and “As You Desire Me.” A highlight of the picture is Miss Harlow’s singing of "Did I Remember?” a new song written esI *cially for her by the noted songwriting team of Harold Adamson and Walter Donaldson. Also on the programme is an exceptionally good short sunject entitled “Where the Power God Dwells.” It tells in a vivid man--1 ner the birth of the great oil industry, the life and habits of the natives in Sumatra, the immense amount of physical, technical and scientific effort expended on the production of one of the world’s greatest modern necessities. “Lonely Road.” Commencing on Wednesday will be the New Zealand premiere screening of “Lonely Road,” featuring Clive Brook and Virginia Hopper. |
