CROSSING SMASH
WOMAN AND DAUGHTER KILLED FIANCE SERIOUSLY HURT Received Dec. 28, 1.30 a.m. MELBOURNE, Dec. 27. A mother and her 23-year-old daughter were killed and the daughter’s fiance seriously injured when a train wrecked a baby car at a level crossing at Carrum, 20 miles from Melbourne this morning. The killed were Mrs. Ruby Wilde, 41, and Miss Alice Wilde and the Injured man was Kenneth Crowhurst, aged 25. Pieces of the car were scattered 70 feet along the track. The daughter was killed instantly and the mother died in hospital. Crowhurst was driving the party to a picnic at Frankston, six miles further along the line. The police were informed that the car appeared to race the train to the crossing.
