GALA DAY HELD

WANGANUI EAST SCHOOL

FANCY DRESS FAIR LIST OF PRIZEWINNERS On Thursday afternoon the Wanganui East School grounds presented a most colourful scene when the annual fancy dress fair was held. Some 400 children in fancy costumes of all shades and varieties took part in the grand march on the lawn. The tents and flag be-decked buildings gave a suitable setting for the gay scene. During the afternoon the children gave displays of folk dancing, Maori canoe and Old English dances, for which an orchestra under Mr. H. J. Trussell supplied the music. Stalls set out in various parts of the grounds did brisk business, the tea rooms and Ice cream stall being particularly popular. The task of the judges (Mesdames McMurtrie, Hare and Gilbert) in selecting prize-winners for best fancy costumes was exceedingly difficult as many of the dresses were outstanding in beauty and conception.
