Mr and Mrs Nowell Izard, have taken a cottage at Castlecliff for the summer. Mr and Mrs E. Quinn and Master Quinn, of Napier, are in Wanganui to attend the college prize-giving. Mr and Mrs Blacker, of Petone, Wellington, have been visiting Wanganui. Miss Joan Coad, on the nursing staff of the Wanganui Public Hospital, left on Saturday morning for New Plymouth. » * * * Miss June Healey was one of the performers at the concert given in connection with the ceremony for the crowning of the Queen in the Health Camp Carnival, and danced a solo tap. ENGAGEMENT The engagement is announced of Maxine Constance, only daughter of Mrs F. H. G. Galvin, Gisborne, and the late Mr A. W. Staite, to Kenneth William, only son of Mr and Mrs W. O. Wilkinson, Wanganui. SUCCESSFUL GARDEN PARTY Favoured with ideal weather on Saturday afternoon, the Westmere Presbyterian garden party, held in the beautiful and spacious grounds of Mrs H. Collier’s home on St. John s Hill, was a great success. The Mayoress (Mrs W. J. Rogers) who was accompanied by the Mayor, in a brief speech, opened the proceedings. Bands of willing workers assisted at the various generously laden stalls, and with the afternoon tea. Several : young ladies from St. Andrew’s i Church entertained with folk dancing lon the lawn. In the adjacent pad ' dock the children of the Sundaj School held their annual picnic anc prize-giving.
