BOYS’ AND GIRLS’ CLUBS

COMMENCEMENT OF JUDGING A start was made with the judging of boys and girls’ calf club entries in the Wanganui Education Board area this week, commencement being made in the Fielding-Manawatu district. The Wanganui-Main Trunk section is to be judged commencing from next week. Orangipongo School (Judge: Mr. J. H. Mason, Fielding) The Orangipongo School, with a roll of 15 presented nine calves, four yearlings and three two-year heifers in milk. Parents and supporters turned up in force and there was a high degree of enthusiasm shown.. The animals had been prepared splendidly and the judge complimented the pupils on their efforts. Addresses were listened to with evident attention and a pleasant and profitable morning was spent. Visitors and pupils were entertained at luncheon by the ladies of the district. Care in Rearing.—Junior: John Reardon’s Cherry, 1; Heather McDonald’s Poppy, 2; Elva McDonald’s Bluebell, 3; James Tuckey’s Tui, vhc. Mason, Fielding) Much the same ethusiasm was evident at Otamakapua School, and when the judging took place there were many of the parents and supporters who attended at Orangipongo put in an appearance. This typified a fine spirit of co-operation manifest in the district, and the inter-change of visits on the lines mentioned can be very highly commended.
