EGYPTIAN TREATY

RATIFICATION APPROVED DOMINION STATEMENTS [By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright] LONDON, Nov. 24. In moving the ratification of the Anglo-Egyptian Treaty in the House of Commons, Mr. Anthony Eden emphasised that the Dominion Governments, though not signatories, had been informed of every stage .of the negotiations. He quoted the statement of Sir George Pearce in the Australian Senate that everything had been done to ensure the continued safety of Empire communications, which meant so much to Australia: also the statement by Mr. Nash that the Treaty was a courageous settlement. Mr. Eden described the quotations as interesting, coming from two of the Dominions most closely concerned. The House approved of the ratification without a division. IMPORTANCE STRESSED [ British Offic’al Wireless. ] RUGBY, Nov. 24. Mr. A. Eden, in asking the House of Commons to approve of ratification of the Anglo-Egyptian treaty of friendship and alliance, said in entering into negotiations it had been the British Government’s intention by reaching an agreement on the four points reserved from 1922, to complete the Egyptian independence and sovereignty and thus satisfy Egyptian aspirations, while at the same time protecting Britain’s interests and advancing the joint interests of the two counries. The four points were: Securing of Empire communications, defence of Egypt, protection of foreign interests, and rights of minorities and the Sudan, and he believed the terms of the treaty did safeguard what was of vital importance to both.
