WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

SANSON’S EIGHTH BHiTHDAY. The eighth birthday of the Sanson Women’s Institute was celebrated on Wednesday, November 18, when representatives from Marton Junction, Bulls, Parewanui, Ohakea, Rongotea, Stanway, and Halcombe Institutes were also present. The president, Mrs. A. K. Drew, extended a hearty welcome to all the visitors. A very interesting address was given by Mr. W. H. Stevens, Palmerston North, on “Native Lore and Bird Life” which was greatly appreciated. The children of the local school of the higher standards attended at the invitation of the Institute. A competition was won by Mrs. Moore of Palmerston North. Much appreciated items were rendered by members of the Halcombe singing circle. A delightful afternoon tea was provided, the cake for the occasion was made by Mrs. A. K. Drew, the candles being lit by Mrs. C. E. Eglinton and blown out by Mrs. W. E. Pearce. Gratitude was expressed to the Halcombe Institute members for the excellent musical items rendered by Mrs. W. E. Pearce. Birthday greetings were received from the following institutes: Parewanui, Rongotea, Marton, Carnarvon, Halcombe, Bulls, Ohakea, Stanway. The singing of the National Anthem concluded a very happy afternoon.
