THE TURF

FOR FEILDINC RACES WANGAN'LI CONTINGENT LITTLE SPRINTING DONE Only a small contingent of local i horses will be taken down from Wan- - ganui lor the Feitding Jockey Club's t meeting on Saturday and Monday, lor - in addition to the Foruell-tia.neu Farmer, Mother Superior, Smoke . Screen and Waipiro, there will be . Rayner's team, consisting of Spit al, Missal and (possibly) Moquette, to- > gether with Airing, Sanhedrin ana i Colenso. . Yesterday morning Spiral (E. Peck) . ran seven furlongs in innn. 30 3-ssec . on number one track. He was unaccompanied, but it was a pleasing effort for a horse that has been set to ' cary 9.0 in the Manchester Handi- • cap (7.7 minimum). Missal, with F. Latham in the ’ saddle, took a tick over s(Jsec. lor four furlongs. She was accompanied by Moquette (E. Peck), but the Limond filly did not please and she may ’ not fulfil her Feilding engagement. ’ Entail, who is expected to race at ■ the Manawalu Racing Club's meeting during the holidays, slipped over ' the last three furlongs of a round at a good clip. Airing, who had an impressive win at Levin on Saturday, did useful work, as did Sanhedrin, who got away badly in the hack sprint at Levin, and then i finished boldly into fourtli place. On Colenso s display at Levin he . will hqve to improve considerably if : he is to have a chance at Feilding. ON AWAPUNI TRACKS PREPARING FOR FEILDING YESTERDAY’S GALLOPS , Galloping at Awapuni on Tuesdaj- ( morning took place on the outside of the course proper, more than 40 feet from the rails, and the good times , generally recorded reflected the fast, nature of this track, writes “Motu- ' roa,” in the Manawalu Standard. Vonia Park, looking none the worse for his race at Levin, worked freely. ( His form on Saturday was disappointing and hard to reconcile with his good effort at Bulls. Bright and well, Ingenuity bowled along freely in her work. She ran a fine race on Saturday and it. does not look as if she will be hard to place at the coming meetings. Gold Nymph and Round Score, looking none the worse for their racing on Saturday, also worked freely. Alloa ran his six furlongs at a steady three-quarter pace, coming home the last, three in 42isec. Martara (Tattersall) was not extended to travel over seven furlongs In 1.36 2-5, finishing nicely to run his last three furlongs in 40see. He seems to have made a splendid recovery from his recent knee injury and pulled up well. Although he has won three races on end, he lias his full measure of weight on Saturday for ' his first race past seven furlongs, but will fulfil his engagement. Hunting Lodge looks none the worse for the minor Injuries she received when she was squeezed over on to the fence at Levin, and worked freely. Gay Molly did a round of threequarter pacework. Mirth (Pine) and Lavish (Anderson) were companions over six furlongs, run smartly in 1.21 2-5, the last three furlongs in 41isec. Likely Two-year-olds Orient Morn (Mansfield) and Hot Shot (Tattersall) showed up to advantage in running in from the three furlongs in 38 2-ssec. Orient Morn is a shapely brown filly by Lackham from Tallulah, a descendant of the Mermaid line, while Hot Shot is another Lackham two-year-old, this colt being bred from Musket Vein. Evermore' did strong pacework. He ran a good race on Saturday, but was not speedy enough for the hurdlers. Cloudy Bay looked very well ano pulled hard in her pacework on the plough. Her poor effort on Saturday is hard to understand. Dungarvan hit out with his customary boldness on the plough. He shows little sign of the serious injuries he was reported to have suffered when he twisted a plate at Riccarton, .and he could not have torn his hoof to any great extent. Le Touquet was another to work on the plough, while Laggard also executed a light task. Severe (Tattersall) was not impressive over seven furlongs in 1.36 2-5, the first live furlongs in 1.9. She looks bright enough, but her galloping is nothing to enthuse over. Black Thread (Feasey) just shaded Padnos (Mansfield) over live furlongs in the smart time of 64 4-5, the first two furlongs Having been run in 25 2-ssec. Black Thread looks all the better for his recent racing, and if he is produced at Feilding on Monday he may pick up a stake before returning to Gisborne. Beau Lac and Crooner did steady pacework, while Taumau hit out well on the plough. Oriwai (Pine) was given an easy round, but she seemed to be very tender in front and was distinctly sore when she pulled up. It is to be hoped this promising maiden picks up again quickly. Bodyline (Anderson) ran his five furlongs in 1.7 3-5, the first three in 40 3-ssec. Bodyline worked well and may have to be considered on Saturday. Party hit out well on the plough. Her race at Levin appears to have brightened her up. Tipsy Miss Works Well. Working alone Tipsy Miss (Tattersall) ran a steady five furlongs in 1.7 3-5. She covered the first three furlongs in 40sec., and was not knocked about at the finish, appearing to come home well within herself. Wildflower (Tattersall) and Laughing Chief (Anderson) moved along well over half a mile, the last three furlongs in 38 2-ssec. Wildflower had i slightly the better of matters at the ; finish. I Bluffer .(Anderson) and the Huntling Song—Martulla colt (Tattersall) skipped home from the two furlongs in 24|sec., with Bluffer having just a shade the better of matters.

Old Surrey (Anderson) was going leisurely over seven furlongs to run the distance in 1.40 2-5. Black Fox hit out well on the plough. Corroboree (Chisholm) and Patter (Scobie) jumped off at the sevenfurlong peg and were quickly into their stride to run the first two furlongs in 26 l-ssec., and the three in 38 2-ssec. Patter soon after dropped out and Corroboree continued alone to run the full distance in the smart time of 1.34 2-5. Corroboree was galloping very attractively in the straight. The only gallop on the plough was a smart six-furlong effort of Tangled (Tattersall) and Gainsay (Brown) in L2OL The first half-mile was run in 53*sec. and there was nothing between the pair at the finish. S. Anderson will ride Round Score, Bodyline, Alloa, Le Touquet, and Eara on Saturday at Feilding, while one of his mounts on tfie second day will be Erebus. Corroboree will be produced on Monday and will be ridden by R. Chisholm, who rode him into third place at Bulls. KELLY GOES WELL ELLERSLIE TRIALS MAZIR ALSO IMPRESSES [Per Pres« Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 24. The weather was fine though dull for tra ning at Ellerslie this morning and the going was in first-class order. All the fast work was carried out on the course proper, on which the poles were 55ft. out, and some smart efforts were recorded by horses engaged at the Takapuna meeting, among them

being Kelly, Prince Ven, Survey, I Mazir and Valspear. Kelly ran six furlongs in lmin. 16) 2-ssec. the first three in 37 4-ssec, and • he was going on nicely at the end. It was the best of the morning over | the distance. Kilonsoa covered a similar d stance | in lmin. 20sec. She ran the first three furlongs in 40 1-5 not doing her best at any part of the gallop. Knight of Australia strode over seven furlongs in lmin. 36 2-ssec. He could have improved on the time. Fleetwind gave Tin Lap and Chief Emerald an advantage at the start of five furlongs and was holding them ; safely after running the d'stance in, lmin. 5 2-ssec. Mazir, Valspear and Gay Broney did six furlongs in lmin. 19 4-ss£c, the first three in 41sec., and Mazir impressed most at the finish. Valspear and Gay Broney also worked pleasantly. Prince Ven was responsible for a good trial in traversing five furlongs in lmin. 4sec., the first two in 25 l-ssec. He was going freely at the end and looks an improved horse since racing at the Rotorua Hum meeting. Valamito and Round Up took lmin. 5 l-ssec. to complete five furlongs, the first two being covered in 26sec. Valamito finished in front. Lady Defoe impressed more than Rabbiform over six furlongs in lmin. 24sec. Both had solid weights. Survoy was in front of Bon Star after reeling off half a mile in 50sec. All Irish was too good for Gay Cavalier over five furlongs r un in lmin. 5 4-ssec., the last half-mile taking 52 4-ssec. Mainland worked evenly while running half a mile in 52sec. Lady Diana

did five furlongs in Imin. 8 L-ssec., the first two taking 26 2-ssec. Royal Appellant was scratched for the Cheltenham Handicap at 11 a.m.
