DUCHESS THEATRE
Fo? those who enjoy red-blooded drama, adroitly flavoured with romance and rollicking comedy, we can recommend no more exciting lilm drama than Columbia’s “The Public Menace,” which will be screened tonight at the Duchess Theatre. Jean Arthur, pert and pretty in her blonde tresses, turns in a brilliantly shaded performance as a ship’s manicurist who tricks reporter George Murphy into marrying her so that she may enter the country legally. Ensuing adventures provide most of the fast moving screen drama, punctuated by frequent thrills and chuckles. George Murphy again proves a flawless performer, lending to his role of hardboiled newspaperman a freshness and vitality that radiates from the screen.
