COMPULSORY POWERS CAMPAIGN FOR REMOVAL I P-.T I’rcMs Association. I CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 23. The Presbyterian General Assembly was asked to-day to join in an ap peal to the Government that the pro vision for compulsory military train ing in the Defence Act of 1909 shou 1 * be removed from the Statute Book. The case was put to the Assembl; on behalf of a deputation by Mr. c R. N. Mackie. There was no fea that the present Government wouirestore compulsory training, said Mi Mackie, but although it had been sus pended the Act was still there an conscription might be introduced b; another Government without refer ence to the people or to Parliament. The Assembly carried a motio thanking the deputation and assurin it of the Assembly’s deep interest i the couse of peace, and assuring i also that appropriate committee would take notice of the represents tions.
