OBITUARY
LORD JOICEY Received Nov. 23, 9.5 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 21. The death has occurred of Lord Joicey, chairman and managing director of James Joicey and Co., Ltd., and Lambton Collieries, the two largest colliery companies in Durham. He was born in 1846. His heir is his son, the Hon. James Arthur Joicey. The Daily Mail says that Lord Joicey started life as a clerk earning 40s a week in his uncle's office. It is believed that he left between £4,000,000 and £5,000,000. SIR FITZROY MACLEAN j Received Nov. 23, 10.20 p.m. LONDON, Nov, 23. The death has occurred of Sir Fitzroy Mac Lean. As a boy he was shown Duart Castle, which was the home of the Mac Leans for thousands of years but had fallen into decay. He vowed he would restore the castle as a residence, which he fulfilled in 1912. Hundreds of clansmen from all parts of the world visited Sir Fitzroy Mac Lean on his hundredth birthday. He will probably be buried on the sacred isle of lona and will be mourned by 20,000 members of Clan Mac Lean. MR. CLEMENT WATSON. WORK FOR EDUCATION. {Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 23. Following a street accident on Sunday the death occurred to-day of Clement Watson, aged 84. He did lifelong work for education in New Zealand, and was a distinguished Wellington citizen. He was born in India, educated in England, and came to New Zealand in the early 'seventies, joining the teaching profession. For 30 years until his retirement, he was headmaster of Te Aro School. He was one of the first graduates of the New Zealand University in Wellington. He was for many years a member of Victoria College Council and was one of the founders of the New Zealand Educational Institute. Mr. Watson was a widower for some years. He leaves a daughter, Miss I. E. S. Watson, of Wellington, and two sons, Messrs. R. B. S. Watson, of Fiji, and C. G. C. Watson, of Wellington.
