British Explorers Back After Year in East Greenland
REYKJAVIK. Iceland.—The BritishEast Greenland Expedition, returning to civilisation after a year in Greenland, arrived at Isa Fjord in northwest Iceland en route to England aboard the Norwegian sealing ship Facies. The expedition, which included two women, was augmented by 1G Eskimos and lived during nearly the entire year in the uninhabited region of the Arctic Circle to carry out geological and botanical in vestigat ions. L. R. Wager, leader of the group, said that the results were fruitful with the expedition taking back several tons of geological and botanical specimens. Mrs L. R. Wager and Mr and Mrs Harold Wager were included in the expedition which left Aberdeen, Scotland, on July 4, 1935, aboard the late Fir Ernest Shackleton’s old ship Quest. They landed at Kangerdlugsuak, Greenland, about 300 miles north of Angmagsalik. Eskimos, which the expedition picked up at Angmagsalik, found the hunting grounds uninhabited and in good condition while the expedition carried on the scientific w r ork.
