EUROPE AND DOMINION COMPARISONS BY MR. GRAHAM [ Per T’crs Association. J AUCKLAND, 22. The well-known South Island alpinist, Mr. Peter Graham, who returned by the Strathnaver, declares that the Swiss Alps, in many respects, ftre inferior to the mountains of the South Island of New Zealand. He mountaineered in Switzerland, Austria, and Italy, accompanied by Canon H. E. Newton, Dean of York, who was in charge of a New Zealand West Coast parish from 1900 to 1907. Mr. Graham was enthusiastic concerning the beauties of the mountain country of Europe. He said that, the facilities, for travel were excellent. Ho spoke of the dairy herds grazing on pastures at altitudes of 7000 and 8000 feet. Discussing the mountains Mr. Graham said that there was a more rugged magnificence about the peaks of the Southern Alps with their varied native bush almost to the snow line and glaciers sweeping dow n Dye in hot!
