MAJESTIC THEATRE

“Tin; PETRIFIED FOREST.” Judging from the tension of Majestic Theatre audiences at the present time, Wanganui picturegoers are appreciating the strong drama, thrilling action, and altogether unusual nature of Warner Bros.’ picturisation of the successful Robert Emmet Sherwood play, “The Petrified Forest.” Starred in this unique film are Leslie Howard and Bette Davis, with a strong supporting cast including Genevieve Tobin, Dick Foran, and a talented recruit from the New York stage, Humphrey Bogart: the latter plays the very difficult role of the fugitive from justice, “Duke” Mantee. “The Petrified Forest,” probably, will always be looked upon as the geratest vehicle in which both Howard and Miss Davis have appeared, not forgetting the former’s “Scarlet. Pimpernel” and the latter’s “Dangerous.” Adapted from the sensational Robert Emmet Sherwood stage success which ran continuously for six months in New York, the picture is a vivid and gripping tale of love and heroism laid in the colourful Arizona (U.S.A.) desert. The supporting “shorts” at the Majestic are on a particularly high standard.
