NELSON TOBACCO MAN AND WOMAN CHARGED [Per Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 21. Following their arrest in a car parked on the outskirts of the Conway Bridge railway camp, Ramon Brugnon Acourt, 28, salesman, and Elizabeth Lilian Campbell, alias Gilbert, 48, a domestic, both of Nelson, appeared in Court to-day charged with smuggling 261 b of manufactured tobacco and with being knowingly concerned in dealing with manufactured tobacco with intent to defraud the Customs of duties. Both accused were remanded till November 27 and each was allowed bail, £250, with two sureties each of £2OO. They are to report daily to the police, who are to retain custody of the car. The police said that the accused attempted to prevent a constable from searching the car. A quantity of cigarette and pipe tobacco, much of It v.-w found in the car.
