KEELUNG INCIDENT
FORMOSAN STATEMENT “A TRIFLING MATTER” TOKIO, Oct. 5. The allegation that three seamen bilked a taxi-driver is reiterated in a statement by the Formosan Government, but it avoids a clear denial that they were maltreated by the police, who repatedly asserted that the men were drunk. The statement concludes: “The police have done nothing meriting the criticism of the foreign Press. It was not expected that such a trifling matter should be seriously treated by the foreign Press.”
