Meteorological Office, Wellington, Tuesday, October 27, 4 p.m. General Situation.—A slight anti-cyclone is passing to the north, but pressure is still rather low over the New Zealand area to beyond Chatham Islands, while a deep depression ’now covers south-eastern Australia. Forecast. —Winds: South-westerly or westerly at first over the northern half of the North Island, otherwise northerly prevailing, force light to moderate but gradually freshening. Seas (N.Z. waters): Slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate but freshening westerly to northerly winds, seas slight to moderate but later increasing. Weather. —For the most part fair, but cloudy at times in most districts with showers at a few isolated places. Unsettled conditions and more general rain developing later, however, in western districts from Taranaki southwards and the far South. Temperatures becoming warmer. The- New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine 30 minutes. RainL-», nil. Shade temperature: Maximum, 64deg. Fahr.; minimum, 52deg.
