. “I WISH I HAD MADCAP’S’ BRAIN-POWER,” SA £8 “WINTER ROSE.” Dear Wendy,—Whew! I am In f great hurry! Something unusual foi me I must say. Yes! It’s me, nol merely my ghost, but truely me. J don’t wonder that you have a surprised look. I am expecting to be put in disgrace, but I do ask your forgiveness lor not writing although I have no excuse. Yes “Hiawatha” it would be a great idea if you were to lose some of your surplus as "Hyacinth” suggests. 1 haven’t seen many letters from this part of the world for quite a while. I happen to know one or two lies around here, but I'm afraid they don’t want to be discovered. Surely you are not shy? Although I’m airaid I’m not a good example myself. Oh, how I wish J could acquire “Madcap’s” brain-power, now ever do you get it, “Madcap," do you have to drink eight cups of waler every day of shall I lift my brains from my leet to my head, which I’m afraid would be glad to receive them. Well Wendy, lots of iove—From your loving Ite "WINTER ROSE,” Waitotara. My goodness, dear! Put you in the corner in disgrace? Surely not for I am ever so pleased to have you In our midst after young long absence. How "Madcap” will laugh when she reads you letter.—Wendy. “STILL SAFE FROM OLD WITCH’S I DUTCHES,” SAYS “DIXIE LEE II.” Dear Wendy,—Here I am still safe from the old witch’s clutches. I have three little pet lambs. I call them Sue, Minnie, and Betty. All the fruit trees are out in blossom and the trees arc getting new leaves. Wendy, I must tell you about my little cow called Molly. I had her given to me on my ninth birthday and it was also her birthday, too, and she will be two on my next birthday. We have a little baby calf and 1 would like you to give it a name. Well Wendy, that is all for to-day. Give my love to all the Ites and lots to yourself. From "DIXIE LEE II.” No. 1 Line. How lucky you are to have three pet. lambs for pets. They are dears, aren’t they? The fruit trees are s marvellous sight, indeed. Let’s cal. Ihc calf Dixie. I think that will be nice for it.—Wendy. “WHITE FORGET-ME-NOT” PLAYS JOKE SUPREME UPON GRANDFATHER. Well, Wendy,—l commenced lo write this yesterday, but my grandfather interrupted me returning home with a visitor—a school pal of mine that I’d not seen for five years. "White Forget-me-not” has not altered her ways very much in five years, she still is the proud possessor of that imp of mischief which also remains ready to pop out when least expected. Grandfather took us for a ride with him yesterday afternoon, while doing his usual investigations and quite suddenly we discovered our car engine boiling. There was a rather ancient and dilapidated-looking house near by, so he suggested enquiring for water from it. "White Forget-me-not” declared it was unoccupied, but Grandfather was positive it was not as curtains decorated the windows and he was terribly vexed when curiosity overpowered "W.F.’s” and my self-control and so forced us to peep through the side windows. In the meantime grandfather was timidly knocking at the back door and when he discovered he could get no response he made his way to the front door. I returned to the car and left "White Forget-me-not” exploring the back yard. Grandfather rapped on the front door several times before it eventually opened and when it did a familiar voice said "Oh, good afternoon, were you requiring anything?” Wendy, "White Forget -me - not" had scrambled through a back window and uniached the front door. Granfather was so disgusted with “W.F.” that he refused to drive us home. He said if she drove it would prevent her from wondering what next she could use as a joke for him. Well, Wendy, I must close now so cheerio. - From "HAPPY OPHELIA,” Letterland. Oh, dear, but what a joke our "White Forget-me-Not” played upon poor grandfather. I can quite well imagine what a surprise your grandfather would receive when she popped out of the front door.—Wendy.
