BULLS

N.Z. NATIONAL PARTY AN ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING An appeal to all who are opposed to Socialism to sink their differences and stand together in supporting the Nar ticnal Party was made by Mi. T. G. Wilkes, divisional organiser of the party, in an address to a .large audience in the Town Hall, Bulls, on Friday evening. The issue to-day, he said was whether to believe in complete State Socialism, or reasonably controlled private ownership? It people believed in the latter aim they must stand together to achieve it. Mr. J. H. Perrett, chairman, in introducing the speaker, said that the large attendance augured well for the future of the party in Bulls, and showed that more people were taking an interest in politics to-day than ever before, and that many were now realising the drift of the present Government’s Socialistic legislation. Tlie aim of the movement, said Mr. Wilkes, is to create a permanent party or organisation that will find scope within its ranks for all shades of political thought that are opposed to Socialism, and believe in the principal of private enterprise; the development of the individual character, the defence of freedom and liberty, loyalty to the Crown and the mutual interests of the British Commonwealth of Nations. Through the delegates from branches to the electorate committee, then to the Divisional Committee, and from there to the Dominion Council, all who joined the party would have a voice in its administration, he said. Mr. Wilkes went on to voice the opinion that to a large extent the National Political Federation had been defeated by apathy and lack of organisation, but to-day the National Party is rapidly building an organisation which within two short months had enrolled many thousands of members in the Wellington division alone. The people were now realising the necessity of the movement, and the response to the appeal for members, and the formation of branches was very gratifying indeed. At the conclusion of his address, Mr. Wilkes was warmly applauded, and it was unanimously decided to form a branch of the National Party in the district, to be known as the Bulls-Sanson Branch. Many present enrolled, and the announcement was made that the initial membership of the branch was 151. A strong committee of sixteen, with Mr. Quentin O. Wilson as chairman and Mr. Roy O. Dalrymple as secretary was elected to further the interests of the party, and this committee then elected eight of its number as delegates to the first electorate committee meeting at Rongotea. Avery enthusiastic meeting concluded with the customary vote of thanks to the chairman.
