WANGANUI ENGAGEMENT Y.M.C.A. GYMNASTIC DISPLAY

Two hundred and eighty skilled performers will take part in the Y.M.C.A. gymnastic display which is to be staged in the Opera House next Monday and Tuesday nights. These performers have been rehearsing for some time past, and the various turns will, undoubtedly, be a credit to the local branch of the Y.M.C.A. Amongst the items will be the spring ballet, of the Ladies’ Fencing and Glitter Club, the popular Y.M.C.A. Krazy Clowns and the Red Aces Balancing Troupe. Special frocking and special lighting effects have been arranged. Supporting artists representing the best talent in Wanganui, will also assist. In addition, is the star engagement of Mr Vincent Ryan, who is undoubtedly the most outstanding comedian of the Australasian stage, and who shortly will embark on a world tour. Vincent Ryan possesses a style which is singularly his own, for he has moulded into his character, his mannerisms and gestures and actions being most amusing, and at the same time, quite natural. These traits of comedy will be noticeable from the first moment he appears on the stage. In addition to having regularly appeared in broadcast performances, musical comedies, and revues which he has written for the Australian Broadcasting Commission, and which have been relayed to all the capital cities of Australia, Vincent Ryan has had a great wealth of theartical and stage experience. He has played in comedy parts for J. C. Williamson, Ltd., and Connors and Paul. Speaking of his ability the Sydney Press said: "The first part of the programme concluded with a comedy act by that prince of comedians, Vincent Ryan. His rendition well merited the term, 'par excellence.' He fairly 'brought down the house.’ ” Throughout his stage and radio career he has played every conceivable type of comedy character, not forgetting that of pantomime dame comedian, which role he has frequently played in pantomime, also juvenile lead, and comedian in musical comedy. By reason of his singing, comedy and wonderful eccentric dancing, he has often been styled “The Jack Buchanan of Australia.” It can safely be said that from the moment Vincent Ryan makes his appearance on the Opera House stage he will immediately establish himself as a firm favourite.
