WAITING CROWD ENTERTAINED AUCKLAND MACHINES AS ESCORTS [Per press? Association) AUCKLAND, Oct. 16. Aeroplanes started assembling at Mangere early in the clay. The Canterbury Aero Club’s Moth arrived in the morning and one of the Auckland Club’s Moths was the next arrival. One of the big Vildebeeste bombers from the Hobsonville Base landed early in the afternoon and it was followed by a Western Federated Flying Club Moth from New Plymouth and a Moth from the Wellington Club. Meanwhile, another Vildebeeste from Hobsonville had left for New Plymouth to represent the Air Force should Miss Batten decide to land there, and so render any assistance possible. The Navy was represented by a Walrus Amphibian from the H.M.S. i Achilles which, with the third Vildebeeste machine, circled about the I aerodrome during the period of waitling.

The official escort, comprising four Auckland Aero Club Moths, engaged in formation flying while awaiting Miss Ratten and the crowd was thrilled bv the aerobatics by the club's instructor.
