CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL

THE WANGANUI PROGRAMME LONG LIST OF EVENTS. The Wanganui Christmas and New Year week carnival programme has now been completed, the following events having been definitely arranged:— Boxing Day.—Wanganui bowling tournament; monster regatta at Sandy Hook (Maori canoe, motor-boat, and lowing events); North Island rifle championship at Putiki; cricket match, Wanganui v. Victoria College. Cook's Gardens; evening, grand carnival fancy dress dance. Sunday. December 27.—River excursion. At Ranana, the Maoris will welcome and entertain the visitors in traditional Maori style. Monday, December 28.—Cricket match continued; evening, grann swimming carnival at Gonville baths. Tuesday, December 29.—Afternoon: Grand carnival procession. Evening: Procession repeated and followed by monster display by combined bands at Cook’s Gardens (music and marching). Wednesday, December 30.—Horti- j cultural Society's gladioli show; open- 4. air wrestling at Cook’s Gardens. Evening: Unique and spectacular display by Geo. Allan’s Dance School; grand carnival choir contest; display by the Y.M.C.A. tumbling troupe. Thursday, December 31.—Street novelties and shop window competitions; 10 p.m., at Cook’s Gardens, monster pyrotechnic display, “Darktown” fire brigade display; dancing on the green to see the Old Year out and the New Year in. New Year’s Day.—Bridge-to-bridge swimming race (subject to tide,; Cook’s Gardens, cricket match, Wanganui v. Wellington Mercantile League; Wanganui tennis championship tournament opens; children’s grand floral procession, followed bv children’s floral tableaux, etc., at Spriggens Park. Evening: At Cook's Gardens, a wonder programme of children s floral dances and tableaux, and Maori competitions in haka, poi, and song; fancy dress ball. Saturday,. January 2.— Cricket match continued; tennis championships continued; greyhound races, Wanganui Cup meeting, on the Wanganui Jockey Club’s course; also, axemen’s carnival (12in. maiden chop, 12in. open chop, and 141 n. open chop). Evening: At Cook’s Gardens, grand carnival sports meet, athletic and cycling, spectacular events, thrilling finishes. Sunday, January 3.—At Castlecliff Beach, monster display and competitions by surf life-saving clubs. To be arranged: Golf and croquet)’" tournaments and brass instrument solo competition.
