WANGANUI ASSOCIATION OPENING OF SEASON DRAW FOR SPRINT FOURS To mark the occasion of the opening of the rowing season to-day, there should be a large gathering of oarsmen and supporters at the Union Boat Club this afternoon, when the Mayor, Mr. W. J. Rogers, will offici ally declare the season open. Also in attendance will be Mr. J. B. Cotterill, M.P. for Wanganui, Mr. Ormond Wilson, M.P. for Rangitikei, and Mr. F. Haywood, patron of the Wanganui Rowing Association. In addition to sprint fours, for which a trophy has been provided, there will be a special challenge eight-oar race between crews representing the Wanganui Harrier Club and the Pirate Rugby Football Club. Proceedings will open with a grand parade of boats, competitors being requested to be ready to take the water at 2.15 p.m. Punctuality is requested so that there will be no delay in getting events off. Following the opening ceremony there will be the sprint fours and the eight-oar challenge race, and during the afternoon dancing may be indulged in tt) music by the Wanganui Piano Accordion Band.
