The annual report stated: “Although the chib did 2iot get going until well on in the season, some very i enjoyable games were played, with | honours even; and, being favoured ; with good weather, we had a most ; successful season. The club’s finances • are in a healthy state, and most of the j cricket gear is in fair order. Our thanks are due to the Domain Board for keeping the oval in such good order during the season, and to the Press for excellent reports of games. Prospects for the coming season appear very bright indeed, and given line weather, members can look forward to many pleasant games. Your committee wishes the club every success, and trusts that this season will surpass all others.” The balance-sheet showed that the club commenced last season with a balance of 12s 7d. Subscriptions and donations totalled £7 9s and . ,;..ure amounted to £1 13s sd, leaving a credit balance of £6 8s 2d. The report and balance-sheet were adopted unanimously, a tribute being paid to the good work of the hon. secretary, Mr. L. Meads. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr. F. A. Holland; president, Mr. E. V. Wilson; vicepresidents, Messrs. F. J. Watson, C. C. Price, K. W. Dalrymple, G. Ellis, F. J. Ellis, G. V. Jackson, E. A. Caldow, H. Meads, T. R. Willis and Mrs. de

A proposal to purchase a trophy for competition between country clubs was negatived, it being unanimously decided that trophies often spoil the spirit of the game, and that it was better to play for the I sport alone. Opening day will be fixed as soon as the weather becomes settled, but a working-bee will be ar- 1 ranged shortly to put the cricket ! pitch in good order. Votes of thanks j to Mr. D. M. O’Connel for his hos- ; pitality, and to the chairman con- . eluded the meeting. BOWLING CLUB The annual general meeting of the > Bulls Bowling Club was held on Tues-1 day evening. Present: Messrs J. Invitations to opening days of the following clubs: Marton, Woodville.—Arrangements were made to visit the Marton opening. From the Oroua Bowling Club, suggesting the following dates for matches: Wednesday, November 18, at Bulls; and Wednesday, January 2, at Oroua.—Resolved to agree to the first date, and

suggest a later date in January for return match. The annual report and balancesheet were adopted, the reportr eading: I "In presenting the annual report I your committee regret that the year’s ' operations show a loss of £l5. As in | previous years this is caused by a reduction in members’ subscriptions. So ' far no special effort has been made ; to raise money to meet the deficit, : but an application has been made to i the Minister of Internal Affairs for a permit to conduct am art union, and if. permission is granted, we trust that members will rally round and make it a success. We have several pros- , pective new members, and in this, connection your committee has decid-; ed to recommend to the annual meeting that new members be accepted ' for the first year at a reduced fee o! 255. This will only apply to those . new members who have not played • bowls before. We hope, if this is carried, that it will attract a number of new members to the club. The past . season was the worst experienced since the inception of the club; the weather was continually unfavourable, : iand very little bowls played, with the that very little visiting was done, and very few visitors were received. The result was that members to a certain extent lost interest. However, the prospects for the coming season are much brighter, and we can look forward to a more pleasurable time than last year. In conclusion, I can only reiterate what I said last year, the necessity for members to show more keenness in the club’s affairs; to make a special effort to balance the accounts; not to leave the work to a few, but to make a determined effort to put the club in a sound and stable position. Your hearty thanks are due to Mr E. V. Wilson, honorary secretary, for his good work during the year; to the honorary treasurer, Mr G. H. Archer, and green superintendent, and for his excellent work in the gardens. We also thank the ladies for their valuable assistance, especially providing afternoon tea, which is much appreciated.”—(Sigd.) John W. Perrett, president. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr John Ellery, president;

Mr J. H. Perrett, vice-president; Ml :A. W. Amon, hon, treasurer, Mr G. H. Archer; hon. secretary. Mr E. V. Willson; general committee, Messrs J. E. ! Walker, C. C. Price, S. W. Ingram, :W. H.
