BULLS WOMEN'S INSTITUTE The monthly meeting of the Bulls Women's Institute was held on Monday, October 12. Mrs. H. Ellery presided, but owing to the bad weather there was only a small attendance of members. One new member, Mrs. J. Sanson, was welcomed. Mrs. D. Brookie and Miss E. Richards were appointed delegates to the half-yearly council meeting at Palmerston North on November 2, A most interesting and instructive demonstration of reed looming was given by Mrs. J. S. Tricker, the articles demonstrated on being a thermos flask cover, tray and basket. Competitions resulted as follow: Most perfect bloom, Mrs. J. S. Tricker; jar of marmalade, Mrs. W. Homes 1, Mrs. A. Cole 2. The po.nts prize for six months resulted: Mrs. J. S. Tricker 1, Mrs. W. Homes 2. A musical parcel competition was won by Miss Wilton. A small flower show will be held at the next meeting on November 9, and for junior members who have not won a prize there will be a competition for the best worked handkerchief. The meeting closed with the National Anthem. GENERAL NEWS. Cricket is now being talked of, and a meeting will be held this evening to consider the prospects for the coming season. It is understood that the Rangitikei Golf Club is considering an offer of a property at Parewanui for permanent links, and the propositi.on will be considered at a special meeting this evening. On Friday night a meeting of members of the N.Z. National Party will be held in the Town Hall supper room, the object being the formation of a branch in this district. Mr. T. G. Wilkes, organiser for the Wellington district, will address the meeting. Members and intending members are invited to attend. Ford’s Entertainers staged a bright vaudeville show here on Tuesday evening in aid of the Parewanui School funds. The programme was a very lengthy and varied one, and delighted a large audience. Supper was provided afterwards, and the players were thanked for their generous action in assisting a very worthy cause. The nominations received for the Rangitikei spring meeting were very pleasing, and everything points to another successful race meeting at Bulls on October 31. Entries have been received from Hamilton, New Plymouth, Opunake, Hawera, Waverley, Wanganui, Marton, Turakina, Wangaehu, Feilding, Awapuni, Ashhurst, Foxton, Levin, Woodville, Dannevirke, Otaki, Kimbolton, Waipukurau, Hastings, Trentham and Blenheim—a fairly wide range—and there are some firstclass horses amongst those nominated. The local tracks were never in better order, and every effort ic being made to popularise the club’s meetings.
