Meteorological Office, Wellington, Wednesday, Oct. 14, 4 p.m. General Situation.—A depression is moving rapidly eastwards off the Dominion and a rather intense anti-cyclone is approaching across the Tasman Sea. Forecast.—Winds: South-westerly to southerly, moderate to strong generally and of gale force at places, but decreasing to-morrow. Seas (N.Z. waters): Rough north of Farewell Spit and south of East Cape, elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Fresh to strong but decreasing southerly winds prevailing in most parts but freshening easterlies in the far northern portion; seas rough in the far southern portion, elsewhere moderate. Weather: Fair to fine on the west coast of the South Island, elsewhere mainly changeable with occasional passing showers, heavy at times on the east coast between Cook Strait and East Cape. Improving to-morrow, however, in most districts. Cold temperatures with some sharp inland frosts in the South Island.
