OVER-SUPPLY IN CATTLE SECTION. [Per Press Association} CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 14. Entries at Addington to-day were of normal size except in the fat cattle section, in which there was an oversupply and a weakening of va ues. Store Sheep.—A line pf 600 ewe hoggets averaged 33s 6d and an outstanding pen of shorn m.s. lambs 365. Best wether hoggets sold at 24s to 265, ewes and lambs were a shade firmer. Spring Lambs.—A brisk sale with best sorts making from 27s to 30s. Fat Sheep.—A smaller entry and last week’s rates well maintained. Best wethers 36s to 445, prime medium weights 33s to 355, others down to 28s. Best ewes 33s to 395; good 29s to 325, others down to 225. Fat Cattle. —A heavy entry of 460 head and an easing in values by 15s a head. Best steers £l4 to £l6 17s 6d, good £l2 to £l3 15s, others down to £9. Eight weeks have passed since best ox beef was quoted at less than 36s per 1001 b. at Westfield, where values to-day were firm. The yarding was considerably heavier with a proportionate improvement in quality, many choice beasts being available. Choice and prime ox beet sold at 31s to 355, secondary and plain 265, to 31s, prime cow and heifer 30s to 355, ordinary cow beef 21s to 325; extra heavy prime steers £l4 to £l6 2s 6d, heavy £l2 10s to £l4 17s 6d, lighter £ll IDs to £l3 15s, light £9 12s 6d to £lll7s 6d, small and unfinished £7 15s to £10; extra heavy prime cows and heifers £lO to £l2, heavy £8 to £9 17s 6d, lighter £5 to £7 10s, other killable £2 lus to £4 15s. A better class of sheep, particularly heavy wethers, was for. sale, values improving toward the close of the auction to be firm on last week's rates. Shorn sorts were as numerous as woolly sheep, including hoggets, for which there was a steady uemand, late values also being maintained. An average number of spring lambs sold firmly at 13s 9d to 33s 6d. Mostly small calves were again on offer in an average yarding of fair quality, but an exceptional demand produced a further increase and made an Improvement of about 4s a head in two weeks.
