WAVERLEY
During the week-end the finals of the senior championships were played. I. D. Parsons won from J. Petersen, 8 and 7 in the men’s championship and Mrs. I. D. Parsons won from Mrs. Handley, 6 and 4, in the ladies' championship. Other matches played were the final of the C division, in which Mrs. Christenson won from Mrs. Dalrymple. J. Walkinton won from J. H. Cowdell in the third round of the Cave Cup. PERSONAL Mrs. D. Lupton, accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Best, Eitham, is visiting friends in the Manawatu. Miss Aidworth, Silverhope, is the guest of Mrs. R. Wybourne. Mrs. Rugg, who has been visiting the Rev. and Mrs. Gardiner, Napier, and Miss Newing, Wanganui, has returned. Miss P. Graham is visiting Wai--1 pukurau, and is the guest of Mrs. E. Todd. SOCIAL AFTERNOON On Friday a most enjoyable afternoon was arranged by members of St. Stephen’s Church, in connection with their forthcoming bazaai. Miss Allport, Papatoetoe, contributed a very pleasing vocal item to the afternoon’s programme. The competition for the best knitted baby’s frock was won by Miss Bremer, and the sponge cake competition was won by Miss N. Lupton. Mrs. Anderson was the wini ner of the guessing competition. A card party has been arranged for Wednesday evening, and it is hoped there will be a large attendance.
