RAETIHI

FOOTBALL REUNION. There was a good attendance of footballers and supporters of the Raetihi Football Club at the annual reunion of that club held in the Druids Hall on Saturday evening. Mr. Wally Watson, president of the club presided, and had with him at the official table Messrs. Carmine (president of the King Country Union), L. W. Nation, secretary Ruapehu Sub-Union, F. Soar and S. Moore, managers of the senior and junior teams, C. R. McLay (Taumarunui) a former Rugby official, and M. Friedlander, Referees' Association. In responding to the toast of the King Country Union, Mr. Carmine, after congratulating the Raetihi Club on annexing the Charity Cup, said the Kin" Country Union (which was the parent body to the Ruapehu SubUnion) were able to put a team on the field which compared favourably with any team from any district. Referring to the high percentage (33 l-3rd) taken by the union from the gross proceeds in inter-Sub-Union games, he had hoped that this could be reduced. hut unfortunately it could not be done in the past season. The sum of £3O had been received from the Sub-Unions in the past season, and without which it would have been impossible to take a team to Auckland, where they were successful in defeating a strong team. Owing to the lack of finances only three representative fixtures were played, but it was hoped to get some worth-while visiting teams here next season. In responding to the toast of the Ruapehu Sub-Union. Mr. L. W. Nation (secretary) said they should endeavour to cut down the number of teams in the competition next year. Four good teams would be sufficient. Mr. R. C. McLay. who proposed the toast cf the referees, made an appeal to plavers to acquaint themselves with the rules. On numerous occasions good ground had been Jost by local placets being insufficiently 7 versed in the union rules, and in particular the offside rule. Mr. I. Plunkett, who spoke on behalf of the United Club, winners of the Championship Shield and Cup, said his club would have liked to have won the Charity Cup, which was cherished more than the other two trophies. RIGBY. At Ohakune, on Saturday, Ohakune juniors defeated Karioi in the final of the Ruapehu Sub-Union junior competition by 21 to 3. The president of the King Country Union (Mr. Carmine) points out that the match played at Wanganui last Saturday, was not a King Country representative game, but comprised a team from Taumarunui, Ohura and Kaitieke only. The medal for the most improved played in the Raetihi Club, presented by the Farmers’ Trading Co., Auckland, was awarded to Mr. Roy Smith. It has been suggested that a combined dance of Raetihi and United Football Clubs be held to assist the interests of the town queen. The following is the record of the Raetihi Club for the past season: — Played 16. won 10, lost 4, drawn 2. Points for 183; against 86. They were runners-up in the seven-a-side tournament, the championship (for cup), and also the shield. They won the Charity Cup, had four representatives in the King Country team, while ten wore Ruapehu Sub-Union representative jerseys. PERSONAL. Mr. C. R. McLay, an inspector of the Australian Provident Assurance Co., spent the week-end in Raetihi. He is an old Ruapehu Rugby player.
