THE LABOUR PARTY’S VISIT

JTOR the first time for many, many years n poli. ie. i ; arty iias shown an interest in Wanganui. For a long time past Wanganui has been politically off the map. It never occurred to previous Governments that their supporters in Wanganui would have been heartened by some attention: while the interests of the district suffered deplorably. The entry of Mr. J. B. Cotterill into the political arena has clone at least one good to Wanganui, it has restored the city to the political map. It does not matter what opinion may be held concerning the political beliefs of the present member for the city, it must be conceded to him that he has done one vital service, he has made the Government of the day realise that this district has some claims upon it. He is now engaged in fortifying that belief by bringing members of his own political party to his constituency in order that they shall see for themselves those matters which merit Governmental activity. This sense that the long isolation of Wanganui has passed is a welcome relief and it is to be hoped that the shortsightedness of other political persons and parties in this respect will be made apparent to all concerned, both with the political past and. what is more important, the future as well.
