“DIGGERS” ON PARADE AN ARMY OF REPRESENTATIVES NEXT THURSDAY'S BIG EVENT Representatives from many units of the army, New Zealand, Australia, and Britain, will be on parade next Thursday at Belmont links to enjoy the 1936 Returned Soldiers’ tournament. Entries closed last night and total to over 100. Looking through the list one finds the Rifle Brigade, which is sending another strong contingent this year in an effort to maintain championship form, will be opposed by representatives from: I irst and Second Wellington, New Zealand Field Artillery (the big guns), Auckland, Otago, and Canterbury Regiments, New Zealand Field Engineers, Wellington Mounted Rifles, Canterbury Mounted Rifles, New Zealand Signallers, Royal Field Artillery, New Zealand Flying Corps, Australian Infantry Force, Royal Middlesex Regiment, French Artillery, Royal Army Medical Corps. Doubtless there will be others. Nine doctors are to parade and every rank, from privates up to colonels will be there. Somebody hoped a real live general would put in an appearance, just to rekindle memories as to what generals looked like. Fine weather is being looked for. If the elements are kind in that respect the links will be irresistible on Thursday. Warning: All womenfolk are asked to keep at a safe distance. The “blue haze will act as sufficient warning of the "firing line.” The Draw. Players will commence from four tees to avoid congestion, the order of play being as follows: No. 1 Tee. 1 p.m.: A.
