INTOXICATED DRIVER

HEAVY FINE IMPOSED Press Association] CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 6. A fine of £5O and cancellation of his licence for two years was imposed by Mr. Levvey, S.M. to-day on Robert Alexander Johnston, carrier, on a charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-truck. Johnston pleaded not guilty. The evidence showed that Johnston’s truck levelled a well-lit concrete safety zone and that he was under the influence of liquor when examined at the Police Station. The defence was that Johnston was suffering from concussion, due to the smash. Bad visibility was blamed for the smash.
