WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorological Office, Wellington, Tuesday, Oct. 6, 4 p.m. General Situation.—A depression is crossing the Dominion to-day and it is being followed by a secondary across the Tasman Sea. An anti-cyclone is still centred north of New Zealand and another one is now located over Eastern Australia. Forecast. —Winds: Northerly to westerly predominating, strong and squally in parts of the Cook and Foveaux Straits areas, but otherwise mainly moderate backing at times to south-westerly in many places. Seas (N.Z. waters): Rather rough to rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits and on parts of the West Coast south of Cape Egmont, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Winds between west and south-west prevailing but later backing again to north-west, strong at times with rather rough seas in the northern portion but otherwise moderate with slight to moderate seas. Weather: Mainly fair in eastern coastal areas, otherwise cloudy to overcast and with rain at times, but more especially in districts with a westerly aspect. Improving during to-morrow in most parts. Temperatures cool to moderate. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 2 hours 30 minutes. Rainfall, .05 inches. Shade temperature: Maximum, 66deg. Fahr.; minimum, 44deg. Fahr. Time of sunset to-day, 6.33 p.m. Time of sunrise to-morrow, 5.47 a.m.
