CORONATION DRIVE

ARRANGING THE FINANCE [l’er Press Association] AUCKLAND, Sept. 17. There is still a portion of the Auckland local bodies’ contribution to the cost of the supposed Coronation Drive in the Waitakere Ranges to be found, and a conference of representatives of the interested bodies is to be held next week to consider how this balance should be provided. The Government is contributing £78,500 toward the project and the local bodies have been asked to find £14,500.. Eleven of these authorities have undertaken to provide £11,826, leaving £2674 which had been allocated over the remaining 12 bodies, which have, however, declined to contribute. The Waitemata County Council has already undertaken to pay £677 of the total of £11,826, and has been asked to give a further £674. The City Council, already committed to pay £7077, has promised a further £lOOO. Should the Waitemata County Council agree to provide the extra £674, there will be a balance of £lOOO to raise and the method to be adopted will be discussed by the conference on Tuesday.
